This show was Shakespeare's The Tempest with a gender swap for the majority of the characters. This show was my first experience in college. I was able to come in my first semester and work as the assistant stage manager. I was tasked with the job of taking line notes as well as assisting in the taking of blocking notes. During the run of the show I was tasked with blowing the boasan's whistle and assisting back stage with prop hands and movement from one area to another.
I learned a lot during this process. I learned what a show process is like at a college level. I learned that productions meetings are actually a thing. I learned out to take line notes and how to more easily taking blocking notes. I learned that formatting your script in a way that fits what you need most is extremely important. I learned how to better related and communicate with a cast and how important it is to communicate with them on a personal level and not just on a professional one.
Blocking and cues were the main part of this assistantship. Prop tracking was also including under by duties.
